| This band is over-rated. In most magazines I read today it seems to get brilliant reviews, like it's some sort of new revelation in black metal, but I just don't see it. Their previous album was interesting but this one doesn't offer all that much improvement. It's simply more of the same, middle-of-the-road, common black metal with dull and predictable song-structures. Far better than the other BM bands on Moribund, to be sure, but this is not saying much. It seems that people have completely forgotten all of the superior and innovative bands from the 1990's... Xasthur doesn't even come close. If Xasthur is now one of the bands pioneering the 'new wave of black metal' post 2000 then we should all be very depressed. Ignore the hype from people who don't know better and just listen to this guy's compositions to judge for yourself. |
