Mortiis started out as bass player in the legendary Black Metal act Emperor, but in 1993 he went his own way in performing ambient music of the darkest kind. In 1994 Mortiis released an album under the moniker VOND, which was titled "Selvmord" (suicide in English). This album, recorded in two days still consider as a milestone in the ambient dark music genre, this is where it all started!
