Unexpect. Definitely unexpected. If you didn't know any better, judging by these 4 songs alone, you'd probably guess Unexpect were from Europe. But they're from the other beautiful cold North; Canada. Rising from Verdun Quebec. First thought; a little overusage of the female and choir singing backing the agressive death/thrash vocals .. Aside from that they manage to keep my interest throughout. these guys are all over the place with musical style. You're introduced to songs with melancholic keyboards and distorted interludes, breaking into violin pieces reminisent of Believer, that come back around full circle to the galloping machinegun drums and mad screams I hoped would return. The musical atmosphere is matched by the lyrics, often pertaining to myth and the metaphysical, adding another appealing dynamic to Unexpect's style. This is one of those cds i had to listen to a few times to appreciate it as a whole, to recognize the wonderful muscisianship, unpeel the layers of each song, and fully realize how good it is. I'd reccommend Unexpect to any open-minded metalhead whose not afraid of a little orchestral and electronic effects stirred in a torrential downpour of galloping thrash,harmonious orchestral speed, and 'melodic death metal'. Overall the album is strong and heavy with melodic breaks and some interesting twists and turns as it unfolds. The ending track concludes the disc with a mellow classical piano outro.
