TEARS OF DECAY from Emden were formed in the summer of 1997 whereas the current line up has been together since 1998. Initially formed as kind of a fun project in order to make some extreme noise, hang out together and party hard. Thus the first practice ended up as an orgy. Encouraged by that, Henne (guitar), Michael (vocals) and Dirk (drums) decided to continue.

Soon after that Steffen (guitar) joined, who had played together with Henne in Mistrust (R.I.P.). They began to rehearse in a more serious manner to blow mankind away with a mix of Death/Grind and groove.

After a lot of rehearsals on an irregular base resulting in a completely chaotic first year of existence Jörg from Bochum joined on bass. He appeared near the bands tents at the 1998 Wacken fest and similiar interests became apparent thus he became everybody's pal pretty fast. Together they formed a unity that can hardly be seperated.
Rehearsals became better and better. The songs improved and gained more brutality and aggression from each members input. The first show was played in February 1999 with ANASARCA and SANITYS DAWN.
Responses were very good and the band decided to release the songs they had so far as a MCD.

The MCD „Redemption" was recorded in June 1999 at the Audio Check Studio in Emden, formerly known as Time Warp Studio. The result was pretty satisfying and the reviews (in ETERNITY, ABLAZE, LEGACY, etc....) were mostly positive and enabled the band to appear on various compilations (DEADLY ART, ETERNITY, G.U.C., ABLAZE, etc...).

Various shows were played with among others INCANTATION, KRISIUN, FLESHCRAWL, PROFANITY, ANASARCA (R.I.P.), SANITYS DAWN,... festivals und Open Airs, like FUCK THE COMMERCE III, EAR TERROR FESTIVAL I, DEATHFEST-LUDWIGSHAFEN I, MOUNTAINS OF DEATH I,... From April 2000 on the distribution was handled by CUDGEL AGENCY. They also repressed the MCD „Redemption".

TEARS OF DECAY finally got signed by CUDGEL AGENCY in January 2001 resulting in the recording of the debut album „Saprophyt" at Audio Check Studio in early 2002.

So watch out for the sound of Tears of Decay.
