The Taake side is called "Nordens Doedsengel" and really interesting because it contains some old demos with vocals reocrded in 2004 and a new track, a cover "Der Todesking". I have been looking forward to this release because I was not able to get hold of anything from the old demos. "Der Todesking" opens the Taake side, with some heavy riffs in the beginning and screams of pain, human crying and suffering, guitars distorted playing a melody. But this track is not interesting at least I think so, I was more interested in the old demos ("Tykjes Fele", "Marerittet", "Omfamnet av sorte vinger" and "Trolldom") So here we go:

"Tykjes fele" has real demo production, fucking necro as hell, old school. Hoests vocals are really good, I think. This is very different from the newest releases, such as "Nattestid" and "Bjoergvin". Over to the second song "Marerittet" contains a folk song inspired guitar riff, and it works really well. Hoests states himself that he is inspired and listen to a lot of folk tunes. This whole side is very oldschool spiced up with some really cool folk tunes. This is Taake the old way, and the split is worth buying for the Taake side alone. Now over to the Amok side:

Amok is the other band on the split, and this is a band I know very little about, but fuck that. The side is called: "Sadistic Attack"

"Ebola to the people" starts with some weird synth sounds and some chanting/hymns in the background. And then the playing starts, some heavy riffs, seems inspired by the 80's death metal if you ask me, "Possessed" maybe it is due to the vocals. It sounds like a mix between many metal genres, black, death, trash, heavy, a really special mix and it sounds pretty unique as well. "Flamethrower" starts with something that sounds like a speech then it is right onto the heavy stuff. The music of Amok is very strange and unique I would say, the suddenly heavy guitars that appears here and there. "Chemical Dissection" is a really cool song I think, in this song the heavy riffing is placed under some sort of order. And it words out really well. Amok is very 80's inspired and then I'm not thinking of the glam rock bands.

On side A we find Norwegian Amok with their "Sadistic attack" demo from 2001, their first official demo. Back then Amok was Lava (Radek) on guitars and vocals, Stanley on bass and Mord on drums. Musically Amok was a bit different in comparison to Amok anno 2004. "Sadistic attack" is chaotic heavy grindcore/extreme deathmetal.
On side B we find Taake, one of the most interesting blackmetal bands around. All other songs on this piece of hellish vinyl are already very old and date from the year 1994 except for the vocals which have been added now in 2004. Musically these tracks are typical Taake and already in 1994 the potential was clearly there. Great underground blackmetal like only Taake can create!!!

AMOK PLAYS FAST, HEAVY, INUSUAL BLACK METAL. THE BAND CREATES A STRANGE AND MALIGNANT SENSATION, REMINDING TO BEHERIT BUT WITH PERSONAL ATTITUDE! THE DRUMS ARE VERY PARTICULAR AND THE SOUND CONFUSES WITHOUT UNDERRARING THE COMPOSITIONS. THE BLACK-HARDCORE SCREAMING COMPLETES THE BAND'S SOUND, VERY PWERFUL! SURPRISING FOR MOOD AND VIOLENCE!

THE TAAKE STYLE HERE IS SURPRISINGLY DIFFERENT FROM THEIR OLD STUFF. HERE TAAKE ARE VERY SIMILAR TO BANDS LIKE OLD SATANIC WARMASTER... REHEARSHAL RECORDING WITH VOICES, HISSES AND RUMORS THROUGH THE TRACKS... VERY VERY DIRTH AND PRIMITIVE! TOTALLY UNEXPECTED FOR THE AUTHORS OF "NATTESTID" AND "...BJOERGVIN...".
