Scarve - Translucence

Napoleon would be proud I think, of the violent, psychotic nature of this Swedish Death Metal outing. France's SCARVE are a bit of an obscurity and their music expresses this nicely. As stated, this is frenzied, psychotic, bi-polar, manic Death Metal with traces if Industrial Metal. Imagine a blend of CYNIC and BOLT THROWER on crack cocaine and you get an idea of what SCARVE are all about. With two vocalists at the helm, a lead guitar player with serious ability and a neurotic musical personality, SCARVE have fashioned a twisted album full of crushing and grinding riffing, slashing drum fills, wild leads and psychotically alternating vocal styles - clean and growled often in tandem with one another. The clean vocals are very well sung and add a whole new dimension to what is already a deep, surreal musical trip. What I like so much about this album is its unpredictability. The band don't stick with one thing for long. For a while its blistering Death Metal, the next moment its a bizarre CYNIC-like break and clean vocal serenades. Tempos vary constantly throughout Translucence and you are hard pressed to find a dull moment on this album. Catchiness of songwriting seems to be second nature to this band, their first nature being writing off-the-wall structures and blending relaxing interludes with nasty Death Metal barrages. The growling vocals are done superbly and being complimented by their clean counterpart, are about as effective a medium as one could expect. SCARVE are just amazing at times and may be the finest French Metal product currently in existence.
