Used, but in good condition...
REALM grabbed unsuspecting audiences in the final year of the 1980's with their ripping debut Endless War. This album however, was my first sampling of the band's music. I wasn't much of a Power/Progressive Metal fan in those days but couldn't help but be amazed at the band's talent and skill. Wisconsin might not be a place that conjures up thoughts of Metal heaven so call this band a fluke but Suiciety is one hell of a listening experience. REALM were one of those phenomenons that come around once a decade and take a quantum leap from the current trends and advance the genre a decade ahead of its time. This innovative effort incorporates the very best attributes of Progressive Metal and processes it through a time machine giving it a futuristic, spellbinding spin. From a musicianship perspective there is not much more to be expected and for the most part REALM exceed every wild expectation. The twin guitar acrobatics on this album are bliss to any Progressive Metal fan and the high-energy nature of the entire product is such that even those not traditionally fanatical about this genre should find something here to exhaust themselves with.
REALM have produced a pioneering album here through a injurious combination of wildly tight riffing and soloing and a unique songwriting signature that is unmistakable. While personally I think the vocals are downright amazing in their range and effectiveness I can rest assured that there are those who may find them a bit overbearing. However you may view this aspect however, it doesn't deter from the fact that the thrust of this album, its fiery instrumental assault, is what makes this album tick like a time bomb. The band's attack is like a surgical military operation. Precise technical guitar work and daring tempo alterations are the fuel that drives futuristic and scorching tracks like "Energetic Discontent" and "The Brainchild" while others like "Fragile Earth" and "Knee Deep In Blood" take the more methodical and traditional road. The album's sound is clear, concise and brushed with a stroke of visionary genius.
Suiciety is a an album that belongs in just about everyone's collection but don't expect the search for it to be easy. This is long out of print and used copies don't come cheap. Whatever the case may be, its worth finding this and holding on to it for all its worth.
