| Polish death metal isn’t really something unusual and in that the band NOMAD isn’t an exception. The band has reached their third album that has been given the title “Demonic Verses (Blessed Are Those Who Kill Jesus)” and if I’ve understood everything correctly, the album was already released in 2003 in Poland, while the rest of the word had to wait until 2004. The album begins strongly with the title track “Demonic Verses” and it doesn’t take long before I can state that this is far better than I expected. This can’t be said to be original in any way, but with pure force and good songs the band still manages to awake my interest. There isn’t any lack of brutality in the music and fast riffs together with an aggressive drumming builds up the music. There are some changes in the tempo, but mostly quite short and the tempo doesn’t really sink below mid tempo at any point. The vocals consist mainly of the style typical dark growlings, but turns once in a while into short screams and the vocalist Bleyzabel does a really good performance. The production and sound is on a really high level, which isn’t really that surprising when you consider that the album was recorded at Hendrix, a studio which for example their county men BEHEMOTH also has used. Except for the title track, the third song “Raging Arsenals Of Waves” and the surprisingly long “Insurrection” also belong to this albums highlights and “In The King’s Hand” doesn’t lie far behind. NOMAD has still a bit left before they reach the big names within the Polish death metal scene, yet “Demonic Verses” promises good for the future. Some more originality in their sound is needed, since there is still a risk that the band may drown in the great amount of bands in the same genre. If you like brutal death metal, then this album is something you should definitely check out. |
