Mourning Caress-Imbalance "Imbalance" reviews 2002

(These reviews were published in German Metal mags throughout spring and early summer of 2002.)

I am right now trying to suppress the need to shout in joy, because I have rarely heard such a convincing album as "Imbalance", which has fascinated me from the very first moment of listening to it. The five musicians have decided to play a moderate version of Death Metal without denying that their main influences live in Gothenburg. Nonetheless, the band already sounds very original for not having existed that long and allows comparisons to bands such as In Flames or Dark Tranquillity, only to give you an orientation. The band has a unique style consisting of straight forward rocking songs that are quite catchy. Songs on this album are constructed with logic and sense, always sounding melodic and overwhelmingly emotional. The level of despair expressed by Gerrit's vocals is almost godlike. Also the guitar-fraction awaits with one wonderful melody after the other and creates variation through acoustic guitar-passages. Despite the fact that the songs are catchy and straight forward, they still are full of little details, so that the listener can consume the songs over and over without getting bored. What should I say last year's self-produced "Perspectives" EP was already an honorable achievement, but this is absolute insanity! This is the best German Death Metal album since a very long time keep an eye on this band! This will probably be the next big thing!
