| Mourning's Blinded by Hate is one of the best demo CD's I have heard in a long time. It has a clean sound, and it is tight and well-produced. I was blown away even when I first played this release. The influences here are apparent: Mourning features three outstanding musicians from black and death metal backgrounds, and the sound of Blinded by Hate is a nice blend of both. I particularly enjoyed the vocals. Blinded by Hate may boast of a nice combination of black metal vocalization and dark, ominous growls -- death metal style -- which compliment each other perfectly. The songs are heavy with woeful melodies that are enhanced by evil sounding vocals and enormously fast double-bass drumming. JJ is a master of his instrument: he lays down his blast beats with ease, and the incredible speed of the drumming stands out and catches the listener's attention. One of my favorite songs, perhaps, would have to be "Impending Doom", a song rich with furious and chaotic guitar riffs which sound, at times, angry and somewhat hideously sarcastic. Again, the song's quality is embellished by dark bass-lines, sinister vocals, and furious drumming. If this is the demo, then the full-length CD is a must have! Barbara Williams (The Metal Vault) |
