Mourning Beloveth - The Sullen Sulcus
|
CD

Crush, crush, crush, crush, crush, crush! Six volumes of plundering doom text rain down upon the listener with the harrowing weight of dense iron machinery as this Irish band unleashes the most vitriolic slice of hell since "Forest of Equilibrium." MOURNING BELOVETH's debut 2001 "Dust" is killer enough. A 60+ minute disc that calls to mind the early days of Cathedral as well as the youthful Paradise Lost, it also displays the band's unique use of both clear & gruff vocals as well as nicely-crafted guitar melodies. A highly recommended buy, "Dust" is still only a storm-warning for the newest bible of doomic dominance. Envision 6 sprawling statements of sonic crushdom, averaging 11 minutes in length & none a speck too long. The guitars of Frank & Brian reach deep into the sub-strata &, over a punishing crawl laid down by Adrian (bass) & Tim (drums), they hang metallic lattices of heaviness across the windows of your soul. Dual in their manner are these axemen in that their work includes vicious low-E thundering & yet also lets fly wondrously melancholy melodies that are memorable as hell. The interesting use of alternating raw & clean vocals is explored further throughout these murderous opuses & the lyrics make a mockery of those in most extreme metal. Check out "The Words That Crawled," superb stuff. I won't kid anyone, this is very extreme doom & may not appeal to people who've just stumbled upon Audioslave's "Cochese" on the radio. But, to those who worship the nastiest metal possible (i.e. Paul Chain, Cathedral, etc.) & only when it's done gloriously well, this album destroys!!!
