Blasphemer can play guitar!!! That is mad shredding man. Very emphatic music, stripped down but still high production. I don't know what the adverse fuss is about maniac, at the very least he is different. Hellhammer needs no introduction, his hands look like insect wings when he plays, too fast for the eye to see. Whenever I need an aggression fix this one does spring to mind. One slab of hate filled cold harsh energy from first note to last.

Ah, mayhem.... I would consider myself to be a black metal expert, as im sure many of you would. I know the extreme hatred many express twords the 'new' mayhem. Though not as classic, timeless, and eternally cult as earlier albums, this album proves that mayhem is still alive and well. Very good album, just dont expect classic mayhem. 4.5/5

Hmm. It feels a bit sterile but is overall very well done - perhaps too well done, in that it's really slick and not at all gritty. The musicianship is incredible - Hellhammer on "Rape Humanity with Pride" shows Longstreth, Laureano and the rest of them who's boss, and does it with flair and apparent ease. The aforementioned slickness means that while it's very powerfully delivered, it also doesn't stick with you. Not as good as Wolf's Lair (which I think most people underrate) but definitely a more solid effort than GDoW.

Hmm, I'll go along with what Erik said. And I gave it a chance, too. It just has no balls.

To put it honestly, Chimera is the best material Mayhem has put out since their MCD "Wolf'sLair Abyss. Unlike the experimental "Grand Declaration of War" album, Chimera is a combination of "De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas" and "Wolf's Lair Abyss. One of the things that caught my attention was the change in Maniac's vocal delivery. In many of the songs, his vocals sound like their previous vocalist Dead. Now and then he will sneak in his trademark growls. A definite improvement over their previous album GDOW. In my opinion, their best album since "De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas. If you think Mayhem has gone gay, then maybe you are gay. They don't give a shit and neither do I. This album gets a 10-10 in my book.
