"Conquering South America" is composed of material recorded during the band's tour of Brazil in 2001. Consequently, nothing from either "The Will to Kill" or the recently-released "Warkult" is present on this disc. But for someone such as myself, who only recently discovered this band, "Conquering South America" is an excellent opportunity to get acquainted with some of Malevolent Creation's earlier material. Normally, I wouldn't recommend a live album to a new or aspiring fan, since live albums rarely feature the sound quality necessary to grasp music as complex and brutal as this. But without a doubt, "Conquering South America" is one of the best-produced, cleanest-sounding live albums I have ever heard, in any genre of music. This could very well be a studio recording with some frontman bantering and audience cheering digitally superimposed between songs. You can hear every instrument, every piece of Dave Culross's drum kit, and differentiate between each guitar, including bass. This is a live album that sounds better than most death metal studio albums.
