Kotipelto-Waiting for the Dawn
Timo Kotipelto (lead vocalist of Stratovarius) obviously called in an army of well-known artists to participate in his first solo outing. "Waiting For The Dawn" boasts conrtibutions from; Jari Kainulainen (Stratovarius), Roland Grapow (Helloween), Michael Romeo (Symphony X), Sami Virtanen and Mika Rantanen (Warmen), Mikko Harkin (Sonata Arctica) and Janne Wirman (Children Of Bodom). Along with immediately similar cover art to Iron Maiden's "Powerslave" done by artist Derek Riggs, Timo has obviously spared no expense in creating this release based on ancient Egypt (and a quite a story of reincarnation) to please himself.

The easiest way to review this CD is to say that if you are a fan of any of the above-mentioned bands, you will most likely enjoy "Waiting For The Dawn". (However there are no rough COB vocals). There is the speed of "Knowledge and Wisdom" that contrasts with the Maidenish gallop of "Battle Of The Gods". "Beauty Has Come" is a ballad that places heavy emphasis on Timo's vocal ability which shines as is to be expected. "Arise" is a bit of a departure from the rest of the CD having a Rainbow / Dio era Black Sabbath vibe.

Available on 7/23/02 in the USA, Kotipelto is well-worth the wait Stratovarius fans will have until 2003 to hear new material from the band. Fans of European power metal will be in for a treat with this release
