Depending on your opinion, Incantation either "still got it", or lost it long ago. I'm somewhere in between. I loved where they were going with "Diabolical Conquest" but found "Infernal Storm" to be lacking (too many riffs were rehashed). "Blasphemy" tries to balance the two, still retreading the same territory, but adding a few interesting tricks here and there. Their musicianship has definitely improved since the days of "Mortal Throne of Nazarene", but in some ways the band is playing too conservative. One of my problems with "Blasphemy" is that it seems to have that "tossed salad" feel to it, like McEntee took all the riffs that the band put to the table and jigsawed them together in a way that sounded nice. Some of these riffs plain suck, while others are godly. While this definitely goes back to the roots of "Onward to Golgotha" and "Mortal Throne...", it lacks the vision of the aforementioned classics. Part parody, part inspired, the band needs to take some big steps in its evolution (the way immolation did), if it expects to make an impact on the scene the way it once did.

This album definitely grows on you, if you let it. I often find myself listening to this on those moody late nights. In a way I can appreciate the oldschool spirit of this release and can sympatize with McEntee's refusal to change.

Another album that sounds like the last. John find new inspiration in a new band. Just like the title of the album, over used and bland. Incantation had a chance with Daniel C., but screwed that up and he left. Just like 90% of all once great bands, Incatation has become a pathetic shadow of its former self.

This album is a little bit slower than their previous 'infernal storm', but it still has the Incantation atmosphere, it's almost like you could feel the hells flames on your skin while listening to this album
