One of the strangest rock bands ever to emerge from the flooded fjords of Norway, In The Woods... owe as much to local folk music and esoteric classical arrangements, as they do the more obvious rock modes and tones of Pink Floyd, Anathema and The Grateful Dead. It all adds up to a style and cohesion that simply overpowers and overwhelms in a misleadingly calm and soothing manner. The subversive cover of Jefferson Airplane's tripped-out classic "White Rabbit" is especially surreal. Elsewhere, "Let There Be Love", "Child Of Universal Tongue" and "Epitaph" showcase the band's unique claustrophobia. Perceptively paranoid, idyllically violent, "Three Times 7 On A Pilgrimage" is a masterpiece for the millennium!
