In The Woods - Strange In Stereo
|
CD

Get strange in your stereo!
This is In The Woods'... third and final studio full length release and like every one before it, it takes a step in a totally different direction from the last while remaining in a style easily recognized as In The Woods..., Strange In Stereo is far more experimental than Omnio; mixing odd ambiences with strange effects and synthesizers to the In The Woods Sound. I wouldn't say this album is any better or worse than Omnio just very different...
The guitar work as always is top notch with excellent leads and riffs. This album seems to be a bit more doomy and slower than the previous albums in the guitar department. Which creates a more melancholic atmosphere by combining atmospheric riffs with powerful male and female sung vocals and a violin on some tracks. But the guitar work remains, as it always has, in that In The Woods... style
The Vocals are excellent. The lead male vocalist has improved worlds since The Heart Of The Ages, it no long sounds like he is trying to sing. Also the female vocalist appears more on this album than on any other In The Woods album. Also for the first time on any In The Woods release you hear the appearance of a male and female duet. With both voices harmonizing the power of their already powerful vocals becomes mind blowing.
There are a lot of crushing atmospheres on this album, mostly nice gentle slow atmospheres with a faint feeling of victory and glory in the mix. Especially on track three. It's a very relaxing listen.
There are a few tracks on this album in which the female vocalist sings over either a single bass line or a quiet ambience, these tracks greatly remind me of The Third and The Mortal. Hell, it could even be the same female vocalist...
This album is full of experimentation with various atmospheres and ambiences. This album is for those who listen to an album as an entire entity and not as a group of songs, this is for those who listen to music as one whole entity and not in terms of riffs, solos and drum patterns. This is not an album you can put in terms of "Black Metal" for it transcends such a title. This album transcends all that is metal in general to a point where it can only be classified simply as…. Music. This is audial essence of greatness and musical freedom. This is how it's done...
