Orthodox death with an ancient meat-grinder gimmick! Could you ever imagine a robin with horns and preying on corpses? A paradox in itself but the very first robins of Russian death metal are exactly like that – the Horned Necrocannibals! Their debut record is colorful and charismatic. The grim and oppressive guitar buzz, bone-braking drumwork, at times rushing in a double-bass avalanche, and the guts-ripping demonic roar make for the basis of the record. If comparisons are to be made, then Grave would definitely be the closest call. The more important thing here is the contrast – the drive goes from zombified depression to ape-shit exaltation, the guitar solos vary from obscurantism and mysticism to bluesy motives of the post-epulation necrocannibalistic apathy. Separate praise would go out to the black malifecarous slant, the dinosaur wingspan of the vocal band, and the sound engineering. Burp! -St.Ded, MetalKings.com
