Total chaos! Having heard an MP3 of these guys on their label’s (Dark Horizon) website, I immediately knew that this was an album I wanted to own. “Demons Dancing...” is a maelstrom of fairly unconventional black metal. Imagine a more complex version of “In the Nightside Eclipse” –era Emperor (both in rawness and riffing, without keys) coupled with some superb Abbath-type vocals. The way he holds out those 30 second ‘Popeye’ groans is fuckin great… Despite the aforementioned musical comparisons, Hordes have a strangely fresh sound to them. Typically albums with such chaotic and lengthy tracks make me want to hit the stop button after 5 minutes, but Hordes of the Lunar Eclipse have great energy and a kind of magic to their style. A diamond in the rough!
