Himinbjorg triumphantly attacks from the treetops with their third Red Stream release aptly entitled "Third." The band substituted their drummer with someone seriously more entrusted to the conceptual origin of the band. With the exchange came a slight musical variation. The delirious speed of the prior record "In the Raven's Shadow" had been slowed down to a commanding, cosmic storm of molten heaviness from genuine pagan hearts. The songs of the band are more stringent, the playing on the record is more concentrated, the production is superior to any of the bands previous endeavors, bringing the all-around outcome of the entire mini CD to a greater climactic state of gratification.

where manes and arcturus left off, himinbjorg explore deep space with this soaring and structurally conflicted, doom-thundering music that mixes the dark aesthetic of black metal with the stylings and encrypted harmonies of progressive atmospheric metal. a pink floyd influence is as present as a gorgoroth one in this bizarre and engulfing chasm in which sound like a soul grows and dies.

HIMINBJORG : Third (Red Stream, 25'47', 6 tracks, black-metal) : The best Viking-metal from France is back with its first mini CD after 2 great CDs. When I say Viking-metal, it is sure in the past, the band played in this way, full Viking-metal music influenced by the Swedish and Norwegian scene but with a great French feeling and not a simple copy of others bands. The new materials from Himinbjorg show another way, less typical Viking and more diversified. We have always some Viking elements mainly in the vocals but the compositions are heavier, melodic and more atmospheric than in the past. Black-metal yes but a little bit more in the vein of Opeth. Great new compositions, as always, I am really satisfied by the work of the French band even if a little evolution is in the compositions. (8/10)- Dark Wave Zine (France)
