I'm not a Black Metal expert and i definitely wasn't there from the beginning [ I discovered the genre in the mid '90s ], but i can say that this is one of the better Black Metal records I've had the pleasure of hearing. In a lot of ways 'Dawn Of The Dying Sun' contradicts what's currently in style when it comes to Black Metal... the production accentuates each instrument, the song writing/technical performance is stellar and either slow or mid-tempo [ No blast beats here ], and most importantly, it carries an intimidating air of passion and sincerity that simply doesn't exist anymore. Every song is great, but "Alone Walkyng" [ Re-recorded from the demo ] is a screaming, soaring 10+ minute fucking anthem that deserves to be classified as one of the greatest songs to emerge from Extreme Metal ever. And the vocalist! His shrieks are fucking hate-filled and convincing; don't expect the usual humorous goblin growls.

HADE's previous, slightly dull album 'Again Shall Be...' lost the great feeling and atmosphere that made the 'Alone Walkyng' demo such good stuff, but 'Dawn Of The Dying Sun' grabs it all back and adds even more grandiose. Barbaric... calculated... controlled... driving... violent. What else can i say? This one is worth the money, kids. Sell that DIMMU BORGIR CD you bought at Hot Topic and invest the cash here.
