Released earlier this year under Dutch label Hammerheart Records , this album features The Gathering's early days as a death metal band with former vocalist Bart . 'Downfall : The Early Years' features material from the band's first rehearsal demo - 'Moonlight Archer' , their second demo - 'An Imaginary Symphony' , & an unreleased 7-inch containing 3 tracks which were later featured on a DSFA sampler . What's more , the first 10,000 copies of this cd also includes a bonus cd-rom of live tracks recorded at the Willem II , Den Bosch ! Taking a walk down memory lane (the band's early beginning) , the Dutch scene back then (circa 1989 - 1992) was huge with leading acts such as Pestilence , Asphyx , Sinister , Gorefest , Thanatos etc & all of them had 1 thing in common - they all played brutal death metal . The Gathering however created something which was totally unheard of back then in the scene - they blended elements of doom together with death & thus the rest shall we say - is history . One can hear the occasional influence of Celtic Frost & Nocturnus (keyboards) on this release but overall it was still a new trend & one which would lead them on an uncertain path .
