Forbidden - Green

  | CD

Forbidden-Green Very solid stuff. It took a few listens to catch hold, but then during one spin it just hit me. Real solid.

A bit like Machine Head musically, though maybe with a dirtier thrash sound. The vox are distorted in places and a little forced at times, but not in a bad way. Sort of the gruff approach that Dee Snider likes to take on some songs (Widowmaker).

The selections on the disc blend into one another, which gives a great non-stop effect for the listener. A splendid listening choice for a rougher-than-usual, slam-dance-off-the-stairway party, perhaps...

The plodding and mood-setting "What is the Last Time?" gets things going, and soon gives way to the great pickup of the title track. A light thrash groove moves the chorus, and a layered vocal effect mixes well with the rapid riffs.
Heavy hitters include "Turns to Rage," "Face Down Heroes," and "Noncent$," with its rolling chorus. A constant and energetic pace fuels "Phat," while the chorus of "Kanaworms" is just plain crunch-and-groove. "Over the Middle" and "Focus" are a couple more top spots, with the latter having a slow-mosh, open handed attack.

In all, these bay-area thrashers have come through with a very commendable pallet of attitude. A good hidden gem to add to your collection, to be sure.
