Used, but in great condition...

The debut "Doomsday for the Deceiver" of these Metalheads from Arizona has a total cult status in the underground and may belong to the ten most important US-Metal records ever. This record is surely not to surpass, although some people claim, that the second effort "No Place For Disgrace" can do it. In fact, this album is pretty, pretty good.
Just take the beginning with the titlesong, which has a jaunty tempo and a harsh chorus and then follows an unbelievable great acoustic break, which offers a moment of contamplativeness, singer Eric A.K. shows his fragile side before the normal tempo returns and the song again turns into the speed zone! A divine and timeless song! Also the following "Dreams Of Death" is great and starts off with great riffs and the drums pick up the pace. Then again the melodic singing of Eric. The lines often reminds me of MAIDEN, who seem to have influenced FLOTSAM a lot.

"N. E. Terror" kicks off with a pretty double bass and gets up the speed. The singer is more of shouting rather than elevated vocallines but despite that, the song works well! A cool mosh part in the middle and a flanger effect in the vocals! "Escape From Within" starts off with charming ballad-like guitars and grows to one of the highlights of the whole disc! A midtempo monster, which is always growing and it gets up the speed, too. Due to the structure, this song reminds me soonest of the debut.

And then it follows - the controversial subject. FLOTSAM & JETSAM dared to cover a song of supergay and glasses fanatic ELTON JOHN. Of course with much heaviness and speed, however, the song is very weak. The following songs are all very good, especially "Hard On You" and "I Live You Die" are outstanding. Latter should be known from the legendary "Flotzilla"-single.

A record, which must be loved idolatrously by every US-Metal fan. This was also the best stuff after the perfect debut, which was released by FLOTSAM & JETSAM. Then Jason Newsted left the band to go to METALLICA. Never again was the band able to combine speed, power and fantastic vocals such perfectly. The following "When The Storm Comes Down" pretty flopped, despite some good songs. With "Cuatro" the style changed completely and all records after that are totally uninteresting.
