Whenever I receive a cd I first take a look at the booklet, the inlay and the cd itself. It gives me an impression of the style, ideology and imagery used by the band in question. As I open the envelope containing Enshadowed`s latest release, I see a black and white cover, filled with skulls and an inverted Jesus Christ, and a booklet containing photos of corpse-painted band members with names as Necrotormentor, Drakhon and so forth. The inlay shows an image of a dark desolate forest and song titles like "Northbound" and "Gospel Of Death". When Messengers Of The Darkest Dawn spins its first rounds in the cd-player it`s not a big surprise what kind of music it contains. Black metal, Norwegian style, of course!!! These Greek madmen have taken all elements of ten years of black metal and put them all on one cd.

High screams, hypnotic repetitive riffs, blasting drums, it's all in here accompied with a great production (for underground standards that is). The tracks are mostly up tempo, with one exception: track five, "Northbound", is more mid-paced, and is in my opinion the strongest track on the entire album. Especially the chorus creeps into your skull and mind and never lets go. Messengers Of The Darkest Dawn has a true Norwegian feel to it. This is how black metal was played a decade ago and I don't know if enough people are interested in this style of music nowadays for this band to gain a lot of attention in the underground. But anyone longing for those days past when black metal was not corrupted by commercialism should check out this extreme release.
