REVIEW DONE BY NOOSE (USBMS)


When I received my copy of Eld's lastest release through AntiChristain front records entitled "PRIMEVAL VESPERS" I was immediately drawn to the cover art. At first glance it seems to be just a picture of a dead colorless forest, but a closer look depicts a hideously grim face faded into the background. ELD hails from NORWAY and play a cold calculated stlye of BM with a slight touch of Death Metal by way of some low tuned guitar and low vocal growl. Don't be fooled, this disk is full of insane BLACK METAL grimness.

Begining the disk is the track "NORGES TROLL HIEM".As crunching distored guitar work and double bass drums start this song off, soon the ultra raw vocals of LAETURNUS hit your ears and you know you are in for some good Norwegien Black Metal. Musically, this song has a slower opening sound but midway thorugh the track blast beats appear where drummer S. Winter shows his definte drum skills. "Pale Skinned Darkness" track two on this release is full on speed with blazing Guitar and neckbreak speed drumming. This, gets you pumped to hear more of what ELD have to offer.Track 3 is by far the fastest track on this title. Midway through the song guitar work by (A.N. as the CD lists) grinds down to a slower pace. There is a definte DM influence that creeps in for a minute giving S.Winter time to prepare for the onslaught of his kit once more.

"AT DAYLIGHTS END" is a song that really shows of the musicianship of Laeturnus and S.Winter, You can hear and feel that they are focused equally on the sound of ELD. Rounding out this release is the final track entitled "MY WITHERING SELF" and if you have visited this bands Myspace then you might recongnize this song as it is posted on their player. At 7 min and 38 sec. this is one of the longest tracks and dosent fail to impress. As you approach the end of the disk and the music fades out you hear a voice say "Nazarene, you have won nothing"..... Excellent ending to a great CD. I must recommend getting this realese as soon as possible.
