Darkwell formed in 1999 and offers a fresh approach to gothic metal. The band prefers not to follow the classic approach of this genre in that it does without the typical male grunts found readily in this style of music. Rather, the men in the band prefer to support their frontwoman and classically-trained vocalist Alexandra with a vocal style that compliments her angelic voice.
