Finally, Daemonia in DVD! Watching this takes me back... to the night where I had the chance to see these guys for the first time. At the time I didn't know much about them, only that they played some instrumental symphonic songs based in horror movies. Anyway, Daemonia is the project created by Claudio Simonetti. And for those who don't recognize the name, he's the keyboarder of Italian legend Goblin, which has been responsible for many Horror soundtracks of Dario Argento's cult-movies.
Well I had the chance to review their album entitled "Live... or Dead" a few months ago, but I actually already knew most of the songs from their concert. And the same with this DVD, although it's actually the whole concert from beginning to the end, and not just the tracks like the album. This one is entitled "Dario Argento Tribute - Live in Los Angeles", and besides the DVD you also get the "Zombi/Dawn of the Dead" album with three bonus tracks.
Before getting into the DVD itself, let me tell you something about Daemonia. It's probably like nothing you've heard before. It's not easy to describe it, but there's no doubt in my mind that there's a lot of work put behind this music.
This Italian band decided to make this DVD in Los Angeles, and even though the audience corresponded to their music, I'm pretty sure they would get a bigger vibe if the concert had been recorded in their hometown.
Well I had my share of DVD reviews, and this one is actually a little different. During the concert you are able to get a few glimpses from stuff they did while preparing this, specially during one of the songs. They also added a few effects (during the editing) during each song which actually turned out to be not a bad idea.
It's also great to see all the band members enjoying what they were doing and anyone could feel the connection between all of them playing live. It's not just about Claudio Simonetti's superb keyboard skills, you can also see Titta Tani making solos with his drums, not mention Bruno Previtali's guitar skills. Even Frederico Amorosi, the bass player, has this really great part where you just forget about all the others just to hear him play. But in the end it's all about how the instruments fit well together, and that's the magic of Daemonia.
Their DVD was very nicely built in all forms, I just wished they added more extras with their trip around Los Angels or maybe parts from other concerts around the world, that's probably the only downside I can find here. Doesn't make it any less worthy of a purchase, so be sure to check out this awesome band, who knows, maybe they'll appear in your hometown anytime soon. -Metal March
