| Well, here is another album by the always great CoF. By now, I've heard so many people bash this album and this band into the ground for going "commercial". And what I want to say to those imbeciles is Black Metal will never be commercial. This isn't Linkin' Park or Slipknot, it's Cradle of Filth. This album, some of which is rerecorded material and some of which is new, still sounds much like the previous stuff in many ways, yet the band don't tend to linger. They know when to move on to differant dark pastures. I'm not going to say maturity, but they seem to at least attempt new things in their world. Thankfully, they can usually pull it off well. The rerecords are not at all bad, and great for someone like myself who can't find them elsewhere, and the newer songs are still loads of dark fun. 'Scorched Earth Erotica' is still black but quite catchy. The same can be said for 'All Hope In Eclipse' and the sisters of mercy cover song 'No Time To Cry'. It may not sound like Black Metal to some people, but it still does to me, and I still love this band and this album. To Hell with all the naysayers. |
