This is a great book, and essential reading for anybody interested in American underground cinema (yep, all three of you). The shooting script for the lost underground CLASSIC by Jim VanBebber, Charlie's Family contains a lot of great stills from the shoot of the ten-years-in-the-making flickershow, and a couple of articles contextualising its place in the world of other Charles Manson films. Charlie's Family stands alone in this stupid subgenre though, being an unromanticised, unvarnished, no-punches-pulled docudrama on the Creepy-Crawl killers and their nauseating crimes. We can only now hope that the film ITSELF - which is extremely disturbing, but a true underground classic - the absolute apex of American underground filmmaking - gets released somewhere eventually. Wouldn't hold my breath, though, but it's an AMAZING (though incredibly disturbing) work. Sigh. We'll see, we'll see...
