Carved in Stone - Hear the Voice

CD
While listening this debut album of Carved In Stone it comes clear that it's a pity that I am not familiar with the mini album that was the predecessor of this full-length. Somehow this album works pretty addictive and very relaxing as well. Carved In Stone is the solo-project on a musical basis for Swawa. She did backing vocals and keyboards in several metal band (like Paimon and Dark Intention) and she joined Taunusheim as a permanent member as well. For this is her own creation we get the most pure version of Swawa immortalised on CD, and for what I've heard her music is purer as well. Taunusheim is a pagan metal band, but with Carved In Stone Swawa is taking it a bit further, forgetting the metal element...
And to me personal this works out very good - for I really like folk music. The music is described as being "mystic folk" in the bio that came along with the promotional version of the CD, and I really agree with this statement. For the subjects - sang both in German and in English - are pretty mystical, handling about majestic deep woods and its creatures, ancient gods, old beliefs and rites, Nordic mythology, nature and magic fantasies. This is underlined by the package in which it comes, a very beautiful cover of some old castle that heavily reminds me on virgin Ireland, or in this context Eire and Albion would fit better. The music is heavily inspired the Canadian folk queen Loorena McKennitt and Hagalaz' Runedance for instance. Swawa has more similar points with Andrea Haugen (also known as Nebel, from Hagalaz' Runedance and Nebelhexë), for she had the same start: in the metal scene. Though, Swawa's Carved In Stone is yet less known, I say 'yet' because I'm pretty sure that she will get her fame in this small little world of folk musicians.
I think people who are interested in acts like the aforementioned Loreena McKennitt, Hagalaz' Runedance/Nebelhexë or maybe the French folk act Stille Volk should definitely check this out. For now, I will play this album once again and try to find the first mini CD...
