Ahriman - Mistpain Path

  | CD

Ahriman-Mistpain Path Scream, shout and jump for joy, long live the internet: "Angra Mainyu or Ahriman was the "evil spirit" in the dualistic strain of Zoroastrianism. Angra Mainyu is the adversary of Ahura Mazda, the god of good. Zoroastrianism or Mazdaism is known as the world's oldest monotheistic religion. It was once the "official" religion of Sassanid Persia, and played an important role in Achaemenid times. The Achaemenid Dynasty was a dynasty in the ancient Persian Empire. At the height of their power, around 500 BC, the Achaemenid rulers of Persia ruled over territories roughly encompassing parts of today's Iran, Iraq, Armenia, Afghanistan, Turkey, Bulgaria, Greece, Egypt, Syria, Northern India/Pakistan, Jordan, Israel, Lebanon, Caucasia, Central Asia, Arabia, and Libya." (from Wikipedia, The Free Encyclopedia).

The band Ahriman originate from Hungary. Given the explanation above, it is of no surprise that their lyrics are about Shamanism and naturalistic ideology, although a clear relation with the old Persia is not evident. 'Ködkín Ösvény' (or 'Mistpain Path') is their second full-length release. Between the first and this one is a time-space continuum of about four years. The band's website is still heavily under construction, but do check out the Gallery section! The music on this CD is good. The metal is energy driven and creates a dark atmosphere. The production sounds well-balanced. The keyboards give the sound a subtle melodic character, without making it loose its ferocity. The artists know very well how to play their instruments and how to write good music. The songs are built up nicely and development is omnipresent. The diversity is relatively high, but this is mostly due to the exciting intermezzo's than their metal. I am quite impressed by the music on this disc. Keep your eye out for this band! -Lords of Metal eZine
