Out of France comes, the Death/Thrash Metal juggernauts Agressor with their new album on Season of Mist entitled Deaththreat. The album is centered around choppy, fast, and technical guitar riffs, Agressor reminds me a whole lot of Canadian Melodic Death Metallers Neuraxis, as Agressor uses the stagnating, but well thought out melodic guitar riff patterns. Deaththreat is the first track to start off the album, and a prime example of what is to come on the remaining tracks. Deaththreat is heavy in the guitars and often exchanged with fast picked rhythms, as Alex Colin-Tocquaine does a good job executing guitar and vocal duties. When Darkness is next up on the album, here is where Alex and Adramelech use atmopsheric like riffs, with a melodic undercut. I also like the killer guitar lead within this song. Warrior Heart is the one song, that stood at the most to me on the album, when it starts off I can't help to think I am listening to Amon Amarth. Alex does some decent Death Metal growls and screams. Joel Guigou holds down the front on bass, as drummer Romain keeps the package together with some blast-beats. Giant of Old is a chaotic song for the most part, but the guitars have a nice razor sound. Every song on Deaththreat is good and solid proof of how a decent Death Metal album can sound, when mixed in with Thrash and Technical Death Metal. Now I finally have a Death Metal band from France, that I can add to my collection, and that is Agressor as of this moment. I also have to mention, that Deaththreat comes with a bonus DVD containing the Midem 2002 show and live recordings from 2000.
