Acheron - Tribute to the Devil's Music

  | CD

Acheron-Tribute to the Devil's Music Acheron are back after a two year break-up and this comes as great news to their loyal fanbase. The band have quite a history, spanning over 15 years and being full of interesting stories. They're one of the few bands, if not the only, to truly grasp and use the concept of Satanism in their music. Leader Vincent Crowley is an ordained minister in Anton LaVey's Church of Satan and the group have had more than one encounter with xtian fanatics in the form of both debates and near riots.
To hold off their ravenous fans as they record their new album, "Rebirth: Metamorphosing into Godhood", Black Lotus Records have released a compilation of cover tracks that Acheron have recorded over the years for various tribute CDs, etc. The song selection on "Tribute to the Devil's Music" is fantastic. Leading off the album is Black Sabbath's "Black Sabbath" and it starts things out the right way. Also included are "Evil Dead" by Death, "Wrathchild" by Iron Maiden, "Devil's Child" by Judas Priest as well as tracks originally recorded by Celtic Frost, Kreator, Motorhead, Mercyful Fate, Kiss, Bathory and Venom. The album is rounded out by an Acheron original "Ave Satanas" which is pretty killer. All of the songs have small liner notes explaining how they came to be and what the band meant to Acheron, written by Vincent Crowley.

Many cover albums sound forced and cheesy, but since this one was compiled rather than purposely recorded, it has a more sincere feeling to it. Great work. And I, like many others, look forward to the return of Acheron.
